In 2004, construction began on the Alexa shopping and leisure center, which is located near Alexanderplatz. The shopping mall and leisure center was opened in 2007, offering shoppers five floors of luxury goods and entertainment such as clothing, electrical items and food. It also houses the largest MediaMarkt in Europe.

The center's design was based on the Art Deco style and it has over 180 stores covering an area over 50,000 square meters.
